Firewall

A firewall sits between a business's network and the wider internet, blocking traffic that doesn't match its rules — stopping unsolicited inbound connections while allowing legitimate outbound traffic through. Modern "next-generation" firewalls also inspect traffic content for threats, not just source/destination, and are one of the five mandatory controls under Cyber Essentials.
