Cyber Essentials is a self-assessed (and independently verified) certification covering five controls: firewalls, secure configuration, user access control, malware protection, and patch management. It's increasingly required to bid for UK government contracts, and is a genuinely useful baseline even for businesses that don't need it contractually — it catches the basic gaps that cause most real-world breaches.
